For this track on Restoration, we look at Isaiah 1:21-26
See how the faithful city
has become a prostitute!
She once was full of justice;
righteousness used to dwell in her—
but now murderers!
Your silver has become dross,
your choice wine is diluted with water.
Your rulers are rebels,
partners with thieves;
they all love bribes
and chase after gifts.
They do not defend the cause of the fatherless;
the widow’s case does not come before them.
Therefore the Lord, the Lord Almighty,
the Mighty One of Israel, declares:
“Ah! I will vent my wrath on my foes
and avenge myself on my enemies.
I will turn my hand against you;[a]
I will thoroughly purge away your dross
and remove all your impurities.
I will restore your leaders as in days of old,
your rulers as at the beginning.
Afterward you will be called
the City of Righteousness,
the Faithful City.”
Part of God's judgement is that we will be ruled by fools and wicked men. When a covenant nation turns away form him, he unleashes upon them fools by the one who put him in power. By contrast, the restoration is stripping away of the foolish leasers and a restoration of wise council within us.
Clearly our thought patterns can lead us to brain rot. We can self sabotage ourselves and put ourselves in the downward spiral of broken useless wounded thinking. It is not so easy to recover the thoughts and perspective we had before without pain, judgement and fear.
God is able to release to us that council that he has placed in us.
2 Peter 1:3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness
Don't believe that the deposit God placed in us at the beginning is lost. It is appropriate for us to ask him to bring that council back to the front of where we can assess and reboot the computer. So that the council we need now in is available to us.
I am convinced that the package of council given to us by God with fierce intentionality was adequate not just for our good days but for our bad days as well. Helping us to rebuild after we have acted foolishly.
Father, we come to you now and ask you to avenge yourself on your ancient enemy. We acknowledge we deserve the foolishness brought upon us by our wrong thinking but as you show your grace to us by helping rebuild and restore, putting back in place the capacity to think righteous thoughts, you would restore to us assess to the council of God that is needed for this window of restoration.
We ask this with deep humility acknowledging we have no legal right other than a plea for mercy and your desire to rebuild us. We ask for access to that council that will get us out of this place to the next place.
