Have you ever been to Neverland? Not the dwelling place of Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, and the Lost Boys nor the "second to the right and straight on till morning". No fairy dust, pirates or Captain Hook here.
Let me try it this way. Did you ever keep a mental or physical never list? You know the one that tallies all the things you say you will never do. I had one, a conviction driven never list.
It was one of those times with God. More stuff coming up in need of healing. I was bemoaning that list of nevers. A sigh escaped in the form of so many unspoken words as I realised that each one of those things had been crossed off that very long list and it left me undone.
Things like, I would never send my kids to school (a die-hard home schooling mom of ten years) I would never leave my church family, I would never leave my beloved home and for the love of God, I would definitely never move to Australia!
It seems like circumstances got in the way of my nevers and one by one I had to submit to someone else's will for a time that rattled me to the core. There in my grief of losing so much, God took me to Neverland. It was here that he shared with me His list of nevers that he made up especially for me because he had known all along about mine.
I was reading in Revelation one morning when the first of many arrested me. The mood was just right as the rain pelted down outside and obscured my window view. And there it was. I knew it was something to stop and to ponder;
You will never have to leave the presence of God. Revelation 3:12
So just because I could, I lingered long that day and for many days after. Every new verse to replace the one I lost and each found their way into a deep place in my heart.
Here are just some of the many verses given me –
The faithful love of the Lord NEVER ends. His mercies NEVER cease. Lam 3:22
You placed the world on its foundation so it would NEVER be moved. Ps 104:5
HE NEVER sinned nor deceived anyone. 1 Peter 2:22
You caused the springs and streams to gush forth and you dried up rivers that NEVER run dry. Ps 75:15
Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you. He will NEVER let the righteous be shaken. Ps 55:22
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you. He will NEVER leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6
For the Lord will not reject his people. He will NEVER forsake his inheritance. Psalm 94:14
Anyone who trusts in me will NEVER be disappointed. 1 Peter 2:6
Heaven and earth will pass away but my words will NEVER pass away. Matthew 24:35
Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will NEVER enter it. Mark 10;15
My list of 'nevers' is incomplete, but with each verse comes new truth for healing and wholeness. I have called it, neverland.
We'd love to hear from you.
