Hosea 7:13-16 reads
Woe to them, because they have strayed from me!Destruction to them, because they have rebelled against me! I long to redeem them but they speak about me falsely.. I trained them and strengthened their arms, but they plot evil against me.
God's outrage here is largely against the fact that they are using against him what God designed to be used for him. Having trained these individuals to do good instead they are doing militant anti-God things even though they are reaping the consequences. While they are reaping the consequences their problem solving abilities to avoid addressing the wrong framing by the left adrenal and kidney infuriates God.
God has given us early warning systems and he has designed our adrenals to instruct us on how to correct not just fix the surface pain while still committing the same root iniquity. We can easily say we are not in the same extreme level of sin that Hosea describes.
All of us are guilty of seeking pain relief when we should be addressing root issues. It is an old problem going back to days of fig leaves that God has defrauded her by withholding something she needed.
Father, we come to you in confession and acknowledging we are guilty of the Hosea 7 accusation. We are trained and equipped by you to find the right frame. We are provisioned by you to solve root issues and to be able to change our lifestyle to bring into alignment who you are. To some degree large or small on many occasions we have framed the problem of someone else being at fault, investing our problem solving skills to resolve our pain instead of dealing with our own sin.
We ask you now for cleansing, for forgiveness, restoration and to remove form our adrenal and kidneys the label you have placed there of traders to your cause because we have sought pain relief not repentance and obedience.
We ask you for this cleansing in the name of Jesus Christ.
Having listened to this section on Betrayal, what are your thoughts and emotions that bubble up? How do you relate to what is being described?
Looking out betrayal through the grid of covenant, can you connect with the outrage that God feels? How does this impact you?
Can you hear God's heart in this seemingly harsh teaching to want to forgive and restore? How does this make you feel and what steps can you take to restore intimacy?
we would love to hear from you
