What Does God Want To Say?
God is the author of Life. Life comes from God, it is a gift. If God gave you the gift of life, why would he want to steal it from you? Why would he not want it to be full, surrounded by love, successful, adventurous, and significant? Why would he want to give you life so that you were bored, miserable, sick, oppressed, confused, or depressed. God does not sit on his Throne in heaven to judge us or scold us! He sits on his Throne to protect us, take care of us, meet our needs, to heal us and restore everything that the thief steals!
Jesus spoke and explained that he is a good shepherd, the real shepherd, that he comes to take care of us. “I tell you the truth, anyone who sneaks over the wall of a sheepfold, rather than going through the gate, must surely be a thief and a robber! But the one who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice.” (John 10:1-5) The Bible says that the people who heard this, didn't get it. The next verse is, "Those who heard Jesus use this illustration didn’t understand what he meant." (John 10:6) Jesus was standing right there in the flesh, they saw him heal the sick, cast out demons and meet the needs of thousands of hungry people. But they couldn't really grasp his identity as the true shepherd or what it implied for their lives.
The next verse says, "So he explained it to them." (John 10:7) Here is what Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me were thieves and robbers. But the true sheep did not listen to them. Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep. A hired hand will run when he sees a wolf coming. He will abandon the sheep because they don’t belong to him and he isn’t their shepherd. And so the wolf attacks them and scatters the flock. The hired hand runs away because he’s working only for the money and doesn’t really care about the sheep."' (John 10:7-18)
After Jesus said this they began to argue whether or not he was possessed by a demon. Safe to say when the Bible says, they didn't understand what he was saying, they really didn't! "When he said these things, the people were again divided in their opinions about him. Some said, “He’s demon possessed and out of his mind. Why listen to a man like that?” Others said, “This doesn’t sound like a man possessed by a demon! Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?” (John 10:19-21) I read the NIV when I was growing up and it says, "I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." (John 10:10 NIV) the New King James says, "I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly." The New American Standard says, "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."
Since Jesus died for us and rose to sit on his Throne in Heaven, life is a celebration of his goodness toward us! A celebration that it is his heart and intent, the very reason he appeared, to restore all that the thief came to steal and protect us from the thief! Jesus said, No one is stronger than God, Jesus said no thief can snatch us away from him! "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one." (John 10:27-30)
His plan for us is clear. He came to give us life, abundant life, satisfying life, full life! He came to protect us from the one who steals, kills and destroys. Those who heard him didn't understand because while they appreciated his kind acts and miracles, they didn't recognize that he didn't come to sprinkle a little goodness on them and leave. He came to establish the Kingdom of the Good Shepherd for all time. He came to take over, usurp, and destroy the kingdom of the one who has been stealing the gift of life from us! It is so normal, natural and just a part of our reality for so long, to be oppressed and stolen from, that it takes a jolt of reality to see that THINGS HAVE CHANGED!
What does God want to say to you today? The Bible says, "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death." (Romans 8:2) Jesus our Shepherd gave his life for us and established a NEW LAW operating in our lives, "The Law of the Spirit of Life" We do not have to live under the old law. What has the enemy stolen, destroyed, killed? Enough is enough! You have a Good Shepherd on the Throne of Heaven who wants to protect you and take care of you! He has established a NEW LAW that has set you free! You do have access to LIFE, to healing, to emotional healing, to alertness, to joy, to love, to family connection, to your needs met, to challenges that thrill our hearts and allow you to choose to lay down your life as he did, all the things that make life FULL, SATISFYING and ABUNDANT! The Bible says, "Let your yes be yes and your no be no." (Matthew 5:37) Say YES today to the gift of Life. You do not have to wait until you die. The Bible says that God wants to do his will here on earth as it is in heaven! He wants His Kingdom to come! (Matthew 6:10) His DESIRE is for the Kingdom of the Good Shepherd to rule your life so that you do not have anything else stolen or destroyed or miss out on any more LIFE!
God let our hearts be fascinated by the Rulership of Jesus our Good Shepherd! I pray day after day our revelation of your desire to protect us and lead us to good pastures will awaken us more and more to receive the gift of Life in all of its jewel-like facets. Help us every day to overcome the drudgery of life that satan's rulership clouded our minds with! Help us understand what your hearers could not understand, that we can EXPECT GOODNESS FROM YOU! WE CAN EXPECT LIFE! When we do not expect your authority to rule over us for our benefit, to be life-giving, to be miraculous to destroy the destroyer and set us free, then God help us to ask ourselves why are we like those on that day that did not understand. Open our eyes to the Kingdom of the Good Shepherd! Amen.
Beloved, begin to take back today what the enemy has stolen or destroyed! God is for you! He is enthroned in heaven FOR YOU! HE RULES TO BE YOUR GOOD SHEPHERD! throne-of-god
