guessing game

by lois

how about a bit of fun. who here is a fan of the 'wonderful adventures of winnie the pooh by A. A. Milne. 'This beloved classic appeals to us because the characters are so lovability despite their frailties. We love the way they interact and react to situations.'

so here we go. i have listed the characters and you get to put a RG to each one and why you think so.

* pooh bear
* Christopher robin
* eeyore
* tigger
* owl
* rabbit
* piglet

have a go.

spoiler alert: ongoing examples of each character given below.

EEYORE- when i think of this rather gloomy, 'cloud over the head' donkey, i also think of him as a deep thinker. He is greatly loved by his friends despite a melancholy nature which he may be inclined to have brought upon himself. although he appears dark, there seems to be alot of truth, profound and insightful thoughts he brings to the table.

he also seems to be the quickest to assess a situation, and usually we see him pronounce judgment on it. or to see himself as victim.

PIGLET is perfectly safe for Pooh Bear. He never gets annoyed with anyone, and he is able to see the best and believe the best about all his friends in the Hundred Acre Woods. He is devoted and loyal, a reliable and patient friend. Never criticizes, is completely trustworthy, and seems to have no personal agenda of his own.

perspective
by: Eeyore and Tigger

I know some Eeyore's in real life. What a different perspective. I work in the medical field and I have often made the comment to my co workers the he/she reminds me of Eeyore. Who would have thought those people have been broken, and rejected sometime in their life time and that I had been picking something up in the spirit. Now when I run across this I will know that my spirit is sensing some brokenness in that person and I will study the life of Eeyour or the person who created him which will give me more insight.

Tigger- exhorter. Reminds me of myself.

Piglet
by: Denise

Well, I read that description as "servant" - no personal agenda, believes the best, loyal, trustworthy....
This seems much easier with the clues :-)
Thanks!

Interesting tidbit: my dad (servant) was working with someone the other day and I was amazed at how patient he was ALL DAY... that he really DIDN'T get/act annoyed (yeah, I walked out of the room - hummm... I think I have some servant characteristics but I'd fail that litmus test). :-O

great guessing, Heidi. i have posted another clue for Piglet. I will do one a day and possibly wait till the end of this study course as we look at more of the gifts in detail to give 'right answers'.

understand, i am getting my info from a very reliable source which i will disclose. i myself am not the expert.

Exactly... I don't ever use algebra ...
by: Denise

I don't use algebra or all those formulas but they drilled those into us... What I needed was in-depth "Pooh character studies" and they neglected that part of my education totally! Shameful!
This is what's wrong with the school system, not enough Pooh Bear!!
😊
Thanks for doing remediation for me! I am WAY behind on the learn curb both in SLG and the hundred acre woods.
Thanks for making a place that it's safe to be wrong and still have fun too.

Hummm...Thinking in type (that's probably unwise too)
by: Denise

Ok, now I'd read that diescription as prophetish... Not that I'm judgmental or anything. 😜
But the victim part sounds servant... Although the prophet is unforgiving of himself... So...

I guess I see prophets (carnal ones at least) as being brash, bold, confident, highly opinionated...

See, that's how bad I'm at knowing the characters, I don't even remember Eeyore ever saying much of anything, much less passing judgments. Learn something new everyday.

Thanks for the Eeyoreology. 😊

clue #1
by: lois

i will post some info about these characters to see if we can shed more light. here's the first one.

Eeyore- when i think of this rather gloomy, 'cloud over the head' donkey, i also think of him as a deep thinker. He is greatly loved by his friends despite a melancholy nature which he may be inclined to have brought upon himself. although he appears dark, there seems to be alot of truth, profound and insightful thoughts he brings to the table.

he also seems to be the quickest to assess a situation, and usually we see him pronounce judgment on it. or to see himself as victim.

right now, we have Eeyore pegged as a mercy.
more thoughts?

That's funny
by: Denise

Oh well, two is better than none, I guess.
I think the issue is I tried to peg the characters when I don't know/remember them (so I don't know what characteristic they actually have). Lack of wisdom on my part; thanks for not flunking me out of class. Really should have paid more attention in Pooh storybook class. Look forward to seeing a list of characteristics that match the characters/gifts.

in the 100 Acre Wood continues
by: lois

i am feeling very much like the classroom teacher again. you have two of the characters correctly pegged. only two? yah. but i can see your reasoning for saying what you did about the others.

i will spell out some info about some of their characteristics in a day or two and see if that helps. we have covered three of the gifts so far so we'll start with those.

how can we be responsible for the ones we haven't done?!

thanks for 'keepin on'..love your staying power.

Very unsubstantial reasonings
by: Denise

tigger - exhorter ... I remember him as the Loud, center of attention kind of guy, spreading joy (or just being annoying)
* owl - teacher ... Cuz owls symbolized wisdom.
rabbit - ruler ... I remember rabbit as trying to fix, organize, and tell people what the "best" way to do things were.

These, I'm not sure:
* pooh bear - servant: he always wanted to help and was obedient
* Christopher robin - prophet: not sure about this, I remember him as being caring, and correcting pooh, maybe another gifting - but since someone needed to be prophet in my list, I gave it to him.
* eeyore - mercy: just because of his level of brokenness but I think Kanga would be more of a mercy/compassion character.
* piglet - giver: Kind and giving?

Maybe I should go check out a Pooh book and read it, then my answers might be different/ more accurate.

in the 100 Acre Wood
by: lois

you are so brave, Denise for giving this a go. i am not going to give the answers just yet. we might even wait till we review all of the gifts.

if you like, can you give us a snippet of why you matched them this way. would love to hear your reasoning.

remind me to come back to this.

and thank you for commenting.

Guessing
by: Denise

It's been decades since I've seen/read any Pooh stuff... So this is a guess from very vague leftover childhood impressions:

Seven gifts / seven characters so I'm just going to give each one:
These three I think I could justify:
* tigger - exhorter
* owl - teacher
* rabbit - ruler
These, I'm not sure:
* pooh bear - servant
* Christopher robin - prophet
* eeyore - mercy
* piglet - giver
