sapphire-connect newsletter

Greetings,

Welcome to the sapphire-connect newsletter to help you discover a bigger view of GOD.

I had the pleasure of catching up with someone in the SLG tribe recently. A noble subject at heart and a kindred spirit as well. It was a noteworthy meeting and I wondered why this kind of encounter doesn’t happen more often?! It was one I am still savoring as God has revealed so much to me thru the eyes of someone who heard my heart. thank you, E.

Now, onto the newsletter.

Among the Gum Trees

Please give a warm welcome to Debbie, a special visitor to sit and chat with us 'among the gum trees'.

HEY DEBBIE, CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF?

I am Debbie Clarke (my maiden name). Let’s see, three words to describe me would be 1) Passion for Jesus, is a pretty good start. 2) I have a passion for creativity, working with colours, whether it be cutting up old t-shirts to make a colourful rag rug, or doing needlework. 3)Also fairly passionate about history.

HOW DID YOU INITIALLY CONNECT WITH SLG?

I am daily giving my life to God, and growing step by step. Living through some very hard trials, that forced me to put my roots down deep into God, and trusting him. I have been tracking with SLG roughly 6 or so years now. An acquaintance loaned some material, that introduced me to SLG, it was the Seven Redemptive Gifts, and the Seven Curses.

DO YOU KNOW YOU’RE REDEMPTIVE GIFT AND IF SO CAN YOU GIVE US A GLIMPSE OF HOW THAT PLAYS OUT ON ANY GIVEN DAY?

I am an Exhorter who yearns to share the knowledge of God and his kingdom.

WHAT TEACHING HAS MADE THE MOST IMPACT IN YOUR LIFE AND HOW?

The teaching that has made the biggest impact is Joy Unstoppable. I have been a Christian for close to 30 years now, but I have learned more about God and his kingdom from Arthur Burk, than all my years of going to church.

I LOVE TO 'DISCOVER A 'BIGGER VIEW OF GOD'. CAN YOU SHARE A GOD-SIGHTING, STORY OR POEM TO HELP US ALL DO THAT?

Just tonight, as a God sighting, without going into too many details, I learned again how much God is a God of mercy and that he steps in to save us from ourselves.

Someone I know who is dear to me, and is related to me, could have gotten himself into alot of trouble, but I started praying, and God stepped in. The many many little ways God shows me how much he loves me and cares for me..

NIV God's Word for Gardeners Bible: Grow Your Faith While Growing Your Garden

Every now again I run into something or someone that leaves a dramatic impact on my spirit. This bible is one of those things.

I have dialogued with Shelley, the author of this amazing work and finally sorted out that growing up on Newport Beach was in California and not here in Sydney. But my love of the ocean and her passion for gardening are celebrated nonetheless.

The more than strange thing about this all is that I have no idea how to garden and not really interested in learning. But something comes alive in me as I read daily from her insights from Genesis to Revelation and the nuances of hidden treasures throughout.

I include here a piece from the foreword ~

How I hope that by spending time in the devotions before you, your love of gardening deepens your acquaintance with God, changing over the course of these pages to friendship and love...that crazy, delightful love that surprises, giggles and laughs, all the while saving, guiding and setting things right.

May you come outside to play. May you embrace his possibilities and live with nothing less.

Much love, Shelley December 3, 2013

Ways of Faith in a Potato Vine by Shelley S. Cramm

A garden is a place where the ways of faith can be embraced or experienced in a hands-on, intuitive way:

Grow your faith while growing your garden, the NIV God’s Word for Gardeners Bible proclaims.

That is, belief in God’s Word can grow within us as we witness the ways the plants in our gardens grow. Working in the gardens at Windsor Senior Living, the Lord let me see for myself one of the most important truths in his Word.

Case-in-point: The Potato Vine

Potato vine, Ipomoea batatas, is not a Bible plant, yet its vine habit is similar to the other vines of Scripture, mainly grapevine, Vitis vinifera.

Several years ago, I was hired to beautify the gardens at Windsor as springtime arrived and the final stages of renovation were completed. The owner loved lush plants and flowers, and wanted the soon-to-be residents to enjoy the Windsor gardens and be welcomed to their new surroundings.

However, like many gardens, the grounds were large and the budget was small, and we needed plants that would give the most show for the least cost.

Potato vine was an easy choice. Its stunning foliage dazzles and contrasts bright blooms, very pleasing to the eye. We tucked 4” pots of potato vine all around the property to fill in and around young rose bushes and hardy salvias, shades of red flowers set against the chartreuse ground cover and left them to grow all summer…and at this point, anyone who has tended these vines is thinking, “O dear, you left them alone?!”

Returning in the fall, I was astounded to see the vines had taken over. The plants twinned right up and over the surrounding shrubs in an all-consuming fashion, depriving the salvias and roses of sunlight, leaving them nearly leafless.
